Getting Started

Before you begin designing your component's event tracking methodology, and before you look at the best practice information in this section, we recommend familiarizing yourself with the materials below. These will give you the necessary knowledge and guidance to understand and follow event tracking best practices.

• Understand how events work: Read through the Anatomy of an event article, and follow the conventions defined there for the different characteristics of an event.
• Get familiar with existing usage conventions: Read through the Event Types section, and make sure you understand the event type and subtype usage conventions explained there.
• Look at examples: Look at the event tables in the Event Tracking Reference and the built-in component reference available through the Ad Studio documentation, and model your events after those examples.
