Component Development Guide > Certification
Component Defaults and Demos
As part of the component certification process, we need you to provide a default component and a demo ad. The two are closely related and the difference between the two may not be immediately obvious, but these two items actually serve very different purposes. Please read about them below to better understand these requirements.
Note that while we expect you to develop the default component primarily on your own, we are happy to help in the development of the demo ad, since we understand you may not have the necessary expertise to do so. However, we do expect you to provide all necessary materials for creating the demo ad, including any demo IDs, accounts, etc. This is similar to setting up a testing sandbox.
Default component
The default component is the component that an ad designer sees when they place your component into their ad in Ad Studio. The purpose of the default component is to provide a smooth and clear user experience for the ad designer, making it as easy as possible for them to incorporate your component into their ad.
There are several guidelines you can follow to reach this goal.
- Attractive design: The default component should be visually pleasing, giving the ad designer ideas for how they might design the component’s look and feel.
- Clear layout: The default component should be laid out in a way that makes it clear what the component does, and what each component setting is meant to do.
You can configure your default component directly within Component Studio, by setting the Default Value of each component parameter. The component preview will display with all of these default values in place. In fact, you will likely naturally build up your defaults as you develop your component.
Demo ad
The demo ad is used for sales and marketing purposes. This is an ad that we can use to showcase your component to prospects and customers, or even place it on our website. Check out the Flite Hub website for a couple of demo ads featuring Flite Hub components.
The purpose of the demo ad is to show your component in the best possible light, and get customers and prospects interested in using your component.
Your demo ad can use the default component, or can modify those default settings. Attractive design and clear layout are good guidelines to follow when building your ad, just as they are for building out your default component. Some additional guidelines are below.
- Other content: The ad should showcase how your component can work alongside other content like blog feeds, videos, images, social sharing, and so on.
- Consistent design: The ad should have a consistent look and feel, in order to show that your component has the flexibility to make its look and feel consistent with the advertiser’s branding.
The demo ad should built in Ad Studio, using your component exactly as an advertiser might. See here for Ad Studio documentation. We understand that you may not have the necessary expertise with Ad Studio to create a good-looking demo ad, and are happy to work with you in developing it.
